Former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee died at the age 84 in Delhi. Mukherjee, who served as the 13th President of India, was hospitalized at the Army Hospital on August 10. At the hospital, he underwent surgery for a blood clot in the brain.
The Army Hospital in Delhi cantonment where Mukherjee was undergoing treatment had issued a statement earlier on Monday saying he was in septic shock due to a lung infection. He was in a deep coma and on ventilator support.
He developed a lung infection and a renal dysfunction over the past few days, according to doctors.
Pranab Mukherjee was conferred Padma Vibhushan in 2008 and Bharat Ratna in 2019.
Pranab da’s political career spanned five decades, the highest point of which came when he became President Of India. He was in the Presidential office from 2012 to 2017. But even before he assumed the highest office in the land, Pranab Mukherjee had been the backbone of Indian Government on more than one occasion.
Mukherjee’s son Abhijit took to Twitter and made the announcement. In a post, he said, “With a Heavy Heart, this is to inform you that my father Shri Pranab Mukherjee has just passed away in spite of the best efforts of Doctors of RR Hospital and prayers duas and prarthanas from people throughout India! I thank all of You Folded hands”.
