In a troubling achievement, India on Sunday revealed its most noteworthy ever single-day spike in Covid cases at 90,633, taking the count of infections to more than 41 lakh.
The total coronavirus cases mounted to 41,13,811, while the death toll climbed to 70,626 with the novel coronavirus claiming 1,065 lives in a span of 24 hours in the country, the data updated at 8 a.m. showed.
India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 6, 30 lakh on August 23 and it went past 40 lakh on September 4.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, a cumulative total of 4,88,31,145 samples have been tested so far, of which 10,92,654 samples were tested on Saturday.
The Health Ministry stressed that more than 70% of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities.
