A special court in Mumbai on Friday rejected bail pleas of Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik and others arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in connection with a drugs case related to the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
Their bail applications were rejected by judge G B Gurao of the special court hearing cases filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Rhea, Showik Chakraborty, Abdul Basit, Zaid Vilatra, Dipesh Sawant and Samuel Miranda were denied bail by the court. They were all arrested by the NCB in connection with the drugs case.
Rhea’s legal team is expected to move the Bombay High Court on Monday.
After the court’s order, Rhea Chakraborty’s lawyer Satish Maneshinde told media, “Once we get the order copy. We will decide next week on the course of action on approaching the High Court.”
NCB had strongly opposed their bail pleas and said that Rhea knew that Rajput was consuming drugs, but she continued procuring and making payments for drugs.
NCB had further said that if the accused are released on bail, they may tamper with evidence and try to intimidate key witnesses in the case.
Rhea Chakraborty, who was arrested by the NCB on Tuesday after three days of questioning, is currently in judicial custody.
