Around 70 companies are identified by Mumbai police for selling fake social media followers and activities

Mumbai police SIT is investigating a case of selling and buying fake social media followers and activities. The case surfaced when Bollywood playback singer Bhoomi Trivedi realised that someone made her fake profile, claimed to be her social media manager and contacted other Bollywood people claiming that he can increase their followers the way he did for Bhoomi.

One choreographer fell for the trap and paid the accused. But when he realised that something was wrong, he called Bhoomi and then she got to know about the fake profile.

She contacted the Mumbai Police and filed a complaint. The accused was arrested. But during the investigation, Mumbai police realised the margin and range of the scam.

An SIT was formed compromising members of Mumbai Police Crime Branch and Mumbai Police Cyber Cell. The SIT is headed by DCP Nandkumar Thakur and the investigation is looked after by CIO Sachin Vaze.
