TV Journalist Ratan Singh shot dead in Uttar Pradesh

A TV Journalist Ratan Singh, a local journalist who contributed stories for a private news channel, was shot dead at around 9 PM on Monday near his home in eastern UP’s Ballia, about 260 km from state capital Lucknow. He was 42 years old.

Three prime accused have been arrested in connection with the killing of a journalist Ratan Singh who was allegedly shot dead in Phephna village of Ballia district, said police on Tuesday.

“Three prime accused arrested from the spot. Search for other accused is underway. Although the deceased was a journalist the incident does not involve anything related to journalism. It is completely about the land dispute between the two parties,” said Subhash Chandra Dubey, DIG Azamgarh.

Mr Singh’s father, be that as it may, has contested the claim by police. “There was no property question. If you don’t mind go to the spot and see with your own eyes. The police is turning the story,” Binod Singh told the journalists in a late-night statement.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a compensation of ₹ 10 lakh for the family of the journalist.
